Our Name and Logo
About the Name
The word “reclaim” has several meanings:
To retrieve or recover: to get back something that was lost, stolen, or taken away
"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." (John 10:10)
To assert a right: to assert one’s right to something; to demand the return of something
"The Son is the image
of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him." (Colossians 1:15-16)
To restore: to restore something to a previous state or condition
God is the ultimate Creator and all creation belongs to Him! In light of this, we teach Acting, Aerial, Dance, and Music to restore the arts back to its original purpose - for the glory of God.
About the Logo
Our studio’s mission shines through in its logo as well. The 3 lines reflecting from one side to the other imitate mirrors and how we as believers are to reflect God’s nature to those around us. The choice of 3 lines reflects the Trinity—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Our logo was originally designed by Christina Riley with Studiobeanhead LLC.
Our Story
Reclaiming Arts has a rich history of serving Oklahoma through Christian performing arts.
Katha Bardel began Arts Revealing the Son (A.R.T.S.) over 50 years ago as the first performing arts center with a focus on ministry. During this time, A.R.T.S. provided dance and drama classes for many families in Edmond and productions, such as "The Bride" and "The Prince," become staples in the community. A.R.T.S. moved to it's current location in 2012. It was Katha's vision to provide in-house performances with our studio theatre and begin classes such as aerial, music, and theatre that are still offered today. Katha is known as a pioneer in the Christian arts industry and has touched countless lives with her teaching and directing. As Katha went into retirement, A.R.T.S became Edmond Performing Arts Center under the direction of her daughter, Mandy O'Neal. Mandy had a vision to grow the ballet program for the studio and focused on providing a strong, technical ballet program.
In 2017, Shelby Huckleberry became the new studio owner. God placed it on her heart to rename the studio “Reclaiming Arts.” She decided that changing both names and ownership in one year would be too drastic of a shift, so she tabled the idea. However, when she went to coffee with a friend shortly after, her friend told her that God was telling Shelby “new name.” Thus, Reclaiming Arts was born. During this period, God also spoke the words, “renew, revive, and restore” over her.
Reclaiming Arts is what it is today because of the brave women who said "yes" to God and followed His leadings. We are grateful for the many blessings God has poured on us throughout the history of this studio, and we are eager to continue reclaiming the arts for His glory!
